Bucovina is located mostly in the county of Suceava, comprising some of the most picturesque cities: Radauti, Campulung Moldovenesc, Vatra Dornei, Gura Humorului, Siret, and Solca. Here are some of the most famous Orthodox monasteries of the time:

Voronet: also known as the ‘Bucovina jeweler’, dating back to 1488. Scenes from the Last Judgment constitute a manifestation call for resistance against the Ottoman emperor. All these images are painted blue color named “blue of Voronet”, the freshness of the colors, the secular accents are the main qualities of Voronet painting, who last till today as admiration of everyone.

Sucevita: The Sucevita Monastery dates from 1582, a fortified monastery with thick walls, impressive towers, ramparts and a guard road. The scene of Ioan Climax’s Scale is one of the most successful images, where color plays an important role, with the green being dominant.

Putna: The Putna Monastery dating back to 1446. Today, the only building of the Monastery complex that is preserved entirety is the “thesaurus tower” situated in the western part of the church. The monastery is famous for its treasure embroidery, fabrics, manuscripts, silverware, cult objects, including the famous “Humor Gospel by 1487”

Itinerary

DAY 1 | ARRIVAL IN BUCHAREST

Arrival at the Otopeni airport of Bucharest where the Romanian guide will meet you. Half day visit of Bucharest, including a panoramic tour of the city, visit of the open air Village Museum and a photo stop at the Palace of the Parliament. Dinner and overnight in Bucharest.

DAY 2 | BUCHAREST – SINAIA (PELES CASTLE) – BRAN CASTLE – BRASOV-PREDEAL

Departure to the Royal Castle Peles, visit of the fairy-tale castle, then continue towards the famous Bran Castle – also called the Castle of Dracula, visit the Castle. Late afternoon arrival in the city of Brasov in Transylvania, visit the city with historic center, the Poarta Caterina(Gate),visit of the Balck Church. After that check in at the hotel, dinner and overnight.

DAY 3 | PREDEAL – FAGARAS - SIBIU

Breakfast and departure in the morning to the Fagaras Fortress chosen by Huffington Post as the most beautiful fortress in Eastern Europe. After the visit we continue towards Sibiu, European Capital of Culture in 2007 and one of the most beautiful cities of Transylvania. City tour and free time. Festive dinner and overnight in Sibiu.

DAY 4 | SIBIU – BIERTAN – SIGHISOARA – TRAGU MURES – BISTRITA

Breakfast and drive to the Biertan fortified church, visit and then continue towards Sighisoara, Unesco Heritage site, birthplace of Vlad Dracula. Visit the citadel and after we continue to Tragu Mures with a short stop in the old town and by the evening arrival in Bistrita. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 5 | BISTRITA – MOLDOVITA – SUCEVITA – GURA HUMORULUI

In the morning we will drive to Bucovina, the land of the 2000 monasteries; stop at the Bargau pass and then arrive at the Painted Monastery of Moldovita. After lunch time we continue with a visit to the monastery of Sucevita. Short stop at the back ceramic workshop in Marginea and transfer to the hotel in Gura Humorului. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 6 | GURA HUMORULUI – VORONET – ARBORE – GURA HUMORULUI

Breakfast after which we will visit the monasteries of Arbore and Voronet. We go back to the hotel and free time for leisure. Dinner and overnight in Gura Humorului.

DAY 7 | GURA HUMORULUI – AGAPIA – IASI

In the morning visit of the monasteries of Agapia ,where we will be able to visit the laboratories of the nuns where they are making icons, tapes, etc. Towards the evening arrival in Iasi for a short city tour. Dinner and overnight in Iasi.

DAY 8 | IASI-HOME

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to board for the return flight
